A recent correlation between electron scattering lengths of molecules and their polarizabilities [Rupnik et al., J. Chem. Phys. 92, 2303 (1990)] raises questions about the zero energy limits of electron scattering cross sections of polyatomic molecules. A new approach to the theory of scattering very low energy (<10−21 J) electrons by polyatomic molecules is needed.
