Abstract
ABSTRACT The proteins of 70S ribosomes from Staphylococcus aureus Smith (diffuse), Staphylococcus epidermidis IAM 12012, and Micrococcus luteus (lysodeikticus) IFO 3333 were analyzed by two‐dimensional polyacrylamide gel electrophoresis. Although the electrophoregram of the ribosomal proteins from Staphylococcus aureus was completely identical to that from Staphylococcus epidermidis, it was very different from the electrophoregram from Micrococcus luteus. These results are considered to indicate that Staphylococcus is phylogenetically very different from Micrococcus.
