The Annual Dormancy Cycle in Buried Weed Seeds: A Continuum

Jerry M. Baskin, Carol C. Baskin

Open publisher page 426 citations

Abstract

Weed seeds in the soil go through annual dormancy-nondormancy cycles, exhibiting a continuum of changes in physiological responses. These gradual transitions may be related to changes in membrane properties. Seeds of winter and summer annuals respond in opposite ways to seasonal temperature changes; in both groups the responses are important life cycle adaptations to the habitat.
