Open publisher page 1 citations

Abstract

The content of paralytic shellfish poisons (PSP) in cultured cells of the dinoflagellate Alexandrium lusitanicum and of natural phytoplankton blooms of Alexandrium tamarense, were analyzed by high performance liquid chromatography and thin layer chromatography. The extracts of both species killed mice without showing clearly any of the typical signs for PSP. In the HFLC and TLC analysis no recognized toxins were detected in either of the two species.
