Abstract
The dynamics of relativistic systems with a variable mass can be studied by employing the conservation of momentum and the conservation of energy principles of special relativity. The conservation of rest mass does not apply in relativistic mechanics. The correct relativistic equations predict a thrust on a system of varying rest mass which differs in magnitude and direction from the predictions of classical mechanics.
