Abstract
We discuss the current solar cycle (number 24), its unusual characteristics, and the forthcoming solar maximum. We predict the solar activity over the next few decades. A prolonged solar minimum is expected, and the maximum of cycle 24 is predicted to have a low number of sunspots (annual mean number of sunspots, R z ≈ 50).
