Abstract

A major accomplishment of thepastyearwas the bringing oftheLINAC into operation for physics experiments. The LINAC delivered its first beam of fully stripped F at 76 MeV, from an injected 36 MeV beam from the tandem, more than double the tandem energy, in May 1992.It has also delivered a 95 MeV Si beam to the first experiment, which will measure the contribution of the electron-electron interaction from quasi-free target electrons to the K-shell excitation of lithiumlike Si.Three target stations have now been made experiment-ready on the LINAC, and we anticipate full
