Abstract

The purpose of this study was to measure electromechanical delay (EMD) of concentric, eccentric and isometric muscle actions in men (n=21) and women(n=12), and to examine the relationship of movement velocity and EMD between men and women in different muscle action modes. The measurement of EMD was carned out for knee extensors each muscle action with the movement velocity of 0° /sec (isometric), 30° /sec, 120° /sec and 210° /sec(concentric, eccentric), and enforced with the force levels of 100% maximum voluntary contraction. The result of the test showed that in men and women alike, the EMD lengthened as increase of movement velocity in concentric muscle action. On the contrary, it had a tendency to shorten in eccentric muscle action. The EMD of eccentric muscle action showed shorter significant value than concentric and isometric muscle actions. According to these results. it was considered that eccentric muscle action was generated efficiency force because a series elastic component was streched fast as a fast strech velocity. Also, the EMD in men showed shorter significant value (p<0.05≈p<0.01) than women in concentric, eccentric and isometnc muscle actions of all movement velocity.
