Abstract

NEPHROPS AUSTRALIENSIS SP. NOV., A NEW SPECIES OF LOBSTER FROM NORTHERN AUSTRALIA (DECAPODA REPTANTIA) 1) BY A. J. BRUCE Fisheries Research Station, Hong Kong The present communication describes the external morphology of a new species of the genus Nephrops Leach, 1815, in the collections of the Western Australian Museum, Perth. Although of wide distribution in the Indo-Pacific region, only two species of this genus have so far been reported from Australian waters, and the occurrence of this new species is therefore of interest. The species belongs to the "arafurenJiJ" group, which is characterized by the possession of a spinulose carapace
