Abstract
A discussion is given concerning the higher resonances in pion-nucleon interactions. Methods of understanding the simultaneous occurrence of the second and third resonances in both the T = 1/2 and T =3/2 isotopic spin states are reviewed. The distributions for the n pi /sup +/ pi /sup -/ events are discussed. Present data seem consistent with a picture in which the final states are dominated by the two types of final-state interaction and the amplitude phase is independent of T, but the way in which the final states are generated is not understood.
