Abstract
Light rail transit (LRT) is currently the most popular transit technology being proposed for large and medium-sized metropolitan areas. Since 1978 LRT systems have opened in seven U.S. and four Canadian cities. Several more lines are under construction, and many other cities have plans for light rail.
