Abstract

The conventional poling method and piezoelectric measurement technique cannot be directly applied to piezoelectric fibers. In this work the serial poling method was designed and successfully applied to PZT ceramic single fiber with diameter of 120 μm. For the piezoelectric measurement, the difficulty arises from the small capacitance of the fiber and can be overcome by a partially driving method. In order to obtain the correct result the measured parameters require two modifications because of the holder capacitance and the partially driven method. The measured properties of the PZT-5H fibers made by CeraNova Corporation which were poled at 2kv/mm for 10 minutes are as follows: K33′ =2200, tanδ =0.024, v33 D =3800m/s, Qm E =35, k33 =0.68, d33′ =350pc/N. Here K33′ and d33′ are the effective value.
