Atresia of the External Auditory Meatus

Abstract

A new method is described for the treatment of all types of atresia of the external auditory meatus. This method is simple and avoids the use of skin grafts in the external auditory canal. The use of extra meatal skin in the external auditory canal is contraindicated, as it may become infected. The results of this operation performed in 1955 to 1972 are given and include a 70% success rate, even in patients with long-standing otitis externa with gross skin thickening. No complications have been encountered.
