The supermassive black hole is a fundamental component of the standard model of active galactic nuclei (AGNs). Using the reverberation mapping technique, supermassive black hole masses in AGNs have been reliably estimated (Kaspi et al. 2000, ApJ, 533, 631), which has greatly increased research in AGN theory. In this dissertation, we first reviewed the progress on the supermassive black holes in AGNs. We prepared a detailed discussion of the methods used to calculate black hole masses in AGNs, the impact of reliable black hole mass on the accretion and jet processes, black hole rotation, and the formation of a black hole and its galaxy. Second, we presented our work related to supermassive black hole masses in AGNs. The main results are summarized as follows:
