Abstract
Oral slow release morphine 30 mg and temazepam 30 mg given as premedication 2 hours before operation were compared in 62 patients who underwent extraction of four third molar teeth in a randomised double-blind trial. There was no significant difference in pre-operative sedation; the majority were mildly or moderately sedated. Patients in the morphine group woke up significantly faster and had significantly reduced requirements for analgesics after operation.
