Abstract
The purpose of this study is to investigate the competencies of special educators on a set of 35 skills identified by the Council for Exceptional Children as important for professionals working in the area of special education. The self-reported competencies of the subjects are reported and the implications of the findings for special education programs and services in P-12 schools and for teacher education programs are discussed.
