Abstract

In the course of the hookworm survey of increments of troops arriving at Camp Travis, Texas, and of various military units of the Southern Department (Texas, Oklahoma, New Mexico and Arizona) by the Laboratory CarMetchnikoff, a nematode ovum, apparently undescribed, has been found in 429 cases among approximately 140,000 soldiers examined. This ovum is the largest ovum of intestinal worms encountered in human stools. Its dimensions average 95 by 40.2 microns, with a ratio of length to diameter of 2.4: 1. It is extraordinarily variable in size and proportions, its length ranging from 68 to 133 microns and its diameter from 33 to 43. The ova ofNecator americanusin our material measured 69 (from 63 to 72) by 38 (from 35 to 43) microns. These are averages of twenty measurements in both species.
