Abstract

Abstract The pulsed excitation of rare gas discharges using dielectric barrier configurations has been successfully applied for flat panel luminaires to be used in large area LCD backlighting for multimedia applications. Parameters that determine system performance superior to today's Hg‐based CCFL backlight assemblies will be discussed with respect to design properties and processing conditions.
