Tropical Forages: Their Role in Sustainable Agriculture

L. R. Humphreys

Open publisher page 58 citations

Abstract

Forages are crops grown for consumption by farm animals. This book shows how forages can sustain tropical cropping systems and be used to combat environmental problems of deteriorating soils and declining crop yields that are associated with mono cropping. Cropping systems involving forages can thus protect the environment and lead to a more stable income for the tropical farmer through encouraging diversification. This book explains the advantages of mixed farming with animals and crops. It also shows how to manage different cropping systems and describes the science on which such systems are based.
