Abstract

On an ascending scale of ability, man can act as a sensor, investigator and evaluator of the phenomena encountered in the space environment, or he can manipulate the various systems operating therein. Astronauts, astronaut-scientists, and scientists on the ground participate in NASA's flight program, which reaches from earth based laboratories to orbiting spacecraft, landings on the moon, and planetary missions.
