Open publisher page 3 citations

Abstract

Briefly reviews the modern history of transportation and reasons for road pricing via toll roads (reducing congestion and generating revenue). Examines new technology to avoid delays, namely automatic debiting by “smartcard”, and similar technology for public transport. Debates various advantages and disadvantages of such innovation, holding the main advantage to be access to information on service provision. Draws the conclusion that technology is always implemented, for better or worse.
