Abstract
A scale of intrinsic (B - V) is given as a function of MK spectral type for supergiants from F5 to M2. Color excesses E(B - V) are derived for a number of MK supergiants observed by Kron and by the authors. The Hess diagram for stars brighter than M = -30 in the vicinity of the sun is derived and compared with a region of the Large Magellanic Cloud. The leading feature of both diagrams is the accumulation of supergiants near spectral type G; there are very few M-type stars.
