Abstract
Recent advances in the areas of intelligent control, artificial intelligence, microprocessor technology, and smart materials have provided a strong foundation for the development and realization of 'intelligent structures'. This paper presents an integrated approach to the concept of intelligent structures and formulates a framework for the development of such structures. Furthermore, the concept of an adaptive, semi-active actuator for implementation of the proposed intelligent controller is presented.
