Can reddenings of cepheids be determined from mean UBV colours

Abstract

An examination is made of the method of obtaining reddenings from a formula involving log |$P, \langle U\rangle-\langle B\rangle, \,\text{and} \langle B\rangle-\langle V\rangle.$| It is concluded that there are better ways of deriving the formula, but it still contains little information not already given by the mean period–colour relation. The formula therefore may not give accurate reddenings in many cases.
