Abstract

In Brief A motion sensitive, dynamic magnetic resonance imaging technique, which allows visualization and quantitation of tissue motion and flow, was used to study and quantitate cerebrospinal fluid flow, and spinal cord motion before and after surgery in a patient with Chiari I malformation who had a syrinx with 2 distinct adjacent subcompartments throughout the entire spinal cord. Following decompression of the foramen magnum, there was improvement in symptoms associated with a change in the configuration of the syrinx such that only one of the subcompartments resolved, while one part of the cyst remained.
