The European Union Directive legislation has aggressively set the pattern of excellence in preserving individual data privacy worldwide, and Canada's Personal Information Protection and Electronic Document Act exerts an influence on U.S. commerce Within the U.S. laws such as the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act and the Gramm-Leach-Bliley Act seek to protect information privacy in specific industries.
