Abstract
The Meso-Hellenic Trough (M.H.T) is a NW/SE trending Eo-Miocene intermontane basin which developed in the Hellenis part of the Alpine fold-and-thrust belt. Despite its important role in the development of the mountain belt, its origin remains poorly understood. Field, borehole and geophysical data are integrated to present a new model for basin formation and development, which is compared with possible analogues.
