Abstract
The difference between Stokes' solution for a viscous flow past a sphere and the corresponding generalized solution of the Navier-Stokes equation is estimated. This estimate implies that Stokes' solution cannot be close to the exact solution of the Navier-Stokes equation for small Reynolds' numbers, in conformity with the content of classical “Whitehead's paradox”.
