Abstract

The ciguatoxic dinoflagellate, G. toxicus was isolated from Islamorada Key, Florida. Analysis of unialgal cultures indicated that the dinoflagellate produces two toxins: a chloroform soluble toxin and a water soluble toxin. The former toxin was judged to be closely related to ciguatoxin on the basis of TLC and clinical effects manifested in mice. The water soluble toxin was closely related to maitotoxin on the basis of TLC and clinical effects manifested.
