Abstract

Abstract Solid acid catalysts were obtained by exposing Fe(OH)3 or Fe2O3 to 0.1–0.5 N H2SO4 and then calcining in air at 500°C. Fe(OH)3 used was prepared by hydrolyzing FeCl3 or Fe(NO3)3 with ammonia, and Fe2O3 by decomposing Fe(NO3)3 at 200°C. These catalysts were active for the skeletal isomerization of butane at room temperature or 0°C.
