Fluctuations of the Intensity in Thermal Radiation and the Thermodynamic Fluctuations of Emitters

Open publisher page 5 citations

Abstract

The thermodynamic fluctuations of hot bodies emitting thermal radiation generate corresponding fluctuations in the emitted intensity. A simple derivation using standard fluctuation-dissipation arguments shows that such fluctuations manifest themselves in the time correlations of the emitted radiation intensity. An experiment is proposed to detect the intensity correlations. A modified form of the main result satisfying the stationarity condition of the intensity correlations is also obtained.
