Abstract

In the intact conscious dog, DPH(5 mg/kg) produced an increase of 30 ± 4% in heart rate and 61 ± 10% in coronary blood flow. With the heart rate controlled by ventricular pacing, a similar dose of DPHproduced an increase in coronary blood flow of 57 ±7%. There was no significant change in either aortic blood flow or peripheral vascular resistance. These haemodynamic effects were not altered by beta-receptor blockade. From these data it is concluded that DPHhas a transient, direct vasodilating effect on the coronary circulation.
