Abstract

Detection of urgent events shortens the sensing period for correct information. This causes traffic congestion in the network, resulting in possible overflow of data queue of sensor nodes and loss of important information. A new congestion control method based on a generalization algorithm is proposed. The proposed method selects data forwarding nodes that distribute the congested traffic over other sensor nodes and is found to support data traffic between all sensor nodes fairly. This prevents biased energy consumption by some sensor nodes, and the total lifetime of the sensor nodes is prolonged by almost the amount of saved battery energy.
