Abstract

This article focuses on the internationalization of retail strategies. A sample of 25 large international food retailers was used. Four groups of actors are identified according to the strategies used (franchising, acquisition of foreign subsidiaries, joint ventures and opportunity-seeking strategies). An analysis of these groups emphasizes continental or regional strategy adaptations, as well as a variety of other strategies used by international retailers.
