Abstract
Large numbers of Argyrotaenia citrana (Fernald) were successfully reared on an artificial wheat-embryo diet. Width of head capsules of 5 larval stages and their rate of development, by sex, were recorded. The response of the 5th-stagc larva to topical application of 4 compounds representing 4 major classes of insecticides showed the following descending order of toxicity at LD50: pyrethrins > Zectran® (4-dimethylamino-3,5-xylyl methylcarbamate) > DDT or malathion.
