Open publisher page 5 citations

Abstract

Summary Desert environment is described and discussed, with particular attention given to the decisive factors affecting survival and growth of vegetation. The analysis serves as the basis for the description of man's intervention and the changes in the environment due to afforestation. Choice of species, sites and techniques used are discussed, and achievements in tree planting in Middle Eastern deserts are given as an example of the efforts expended in the reclamation of desert lands. Mention is made of the trends in research for resolving problems related to tree planting in arid areas.
