The mitotic activity of Schwann cells of sciatic nerve of 2–3 week old chicken was investigated histologically. Evidence is presented that Schwann cells undergo mitosis in the sciatic nerve of 2–3 week old chicken. It is suggested that this proliferation is related to the fast growth rate of the pelvic limb at this time.
