Abstract
Abstract Softening of produced water with Ion Exchange Resins has been done for many years. This paper briefly reviews these systems and introduces some new ion exchange systems such as Packed-Bed applied to the softening of produced water. The impact of brine hardness is discussed describing the possible merits of using softened brine. These new techniques have lead to re-evaluating the selection of equipment, especially for water with a TDS of 4000 to 7000 ppm.
