Reply from the Authors: The need for placebo-controlled studies in the treatment of neurocysticercosis (NCC) was commented on soon after the introduction of praziquantel as the first antiparasitic drug for this condition.16 Double-blind randomized trials including an untreated placebo group were not instituted because such a study was considered unethical because a drug effective against cysticercosis existed.
