Abstract
SUMMARY Rabbit renal allograft recipients were treated with azathioprine, 1 mg/kg, cyclophosphamide, 1 mg/kg, and methylprednisolone, 0.5 mg/kg, in single, double, or triple drug regimens starting on the day of surgery. A significant prolongation of life was observed in the triple drug-treated (mean, 28 days) animals, as compared to nondrug-treated controls (mean, 12 days). Single and double drug treatment were ineffective in increasing survival in the doses studied. Triple drug-treated recipients showed less histological evidence of rejection and a slower rise in serum creatinine as compared with controls or other treated groups.
