Abstract

A genetic study of Oxalis priceae indicates that flower form is under the control of 2 loci. Long is homozygous recessive at both loci. Mid is dominant to long and is determined by either 1 or 2 dominant “M” alleles. Short is epistatic to mid. When selfed, mid produces fewer surviving offspring than do long and short. The data indicate that mid will survive in an outbreeding population but may be unable to compete if extensive inbreeding prevails. Evidence for, and causes of, inbreeding are discussed.
