Rapid Growth of FTTH by Use of PON in Japan

Hiroaki Mukai, Tetsuya Yokotani, Toshimichi Kida

Open publisher page 7 citations

Abstract

PON (passive optical network) achieves the FTTH (fiber to the home) economically by sharing a single optical subscriber line among multiple subscribers. Especially in recent three years, deployment of PON systems has grown rapidly. This paper introduces the current status of FTTH in Japan, and the bandwidth allocation mechanism as a key technology on PON.
