Abstract
(1)Introduction—This paper originated in an attempt to find out whether the characteristic curves of diurnal variation of magnetically disturbed elements observed during auroral displays at Little America on the First Byrd Antarctic Expedition, as analyzed and presented by C. C. Ennis1, could be found also in a polar station in the Northern Hemisphere. The station chosen was Gjöahavn whose geographical coordinates are: Latitude,ϕ, =+68°.6 (+ signifying north),; longitude, λ, =264°.1 east. This station was occupied by Amundsen's Arctic Expedition from November 1903 to May 1905, a period of considerable solar activity.
