Abstract
New data on the morphology of bird haemoproteids (Sporozoa: Haemoproteidae) Haemoproteus bucerotis and H. burhini, which provide the opportunity to identify species of these parasites without the knowledge of the family to which their vertebrate hosts belong, are given. Illustrations of the main stages of development of gametocytes, available in the type material, are presented. The hapantotype of H. mcleani contains gametocytes and erythrocytic meronts of the malaria parasite belonging to the Plasmodium relictum group. Until additional material is available, H. mcleani is declared to be a species inquirenda.
