Abstract
The introduction of a recombination structure within a fluorescent lamp allows a considerable increase in luminous flux without the usual substantial decrease in overall efficacy. Moreover, it is possible to make lamps with a discharge volume which is comparable with the volume of an incandescent lamp, a luminous flux of about 1000 lumens, and an overall efficacy which is about three times that of the incandescent. Consequently, much greater flexibility and applicability of lighting with fluorescent lamps may become possible.
