Abstract

Data on charged-particle multiplicities in 200-$\frac{\mathrm{GeV}}{c}$ $\mathrm{pp}$ interactions are compared with data at lower energies and with predictions of current models. Fragmentation models are shown to be in substantial agreement with present results, but a multiperipheral view cannot be excluded. Further tests are suggested.
