This paper is a summary of several country reports from the research project "Ethics and the Care of the Elderly," conducted jointly by The Hastings Center and the Institute for Bioethics in Maastricht, the Netherlands. The countries and authors are as follows: Belgium (Carine van Wanseele), the Czech Republic (Eva Topinkova), Germany (Gebhard Allert et al.), Great Britain (Malcom L. Johnson), Hungary (Bela Blasszauer), the Netherlands (Anneke van den Berg Jeths, Ruud ter Meulen, Rob Houtepen), Sweden (Mats Thorslund), and the United States (Daniel Callahan).
