Abstract

Abstract An earlier account of the tachinid Bactromyiella Mesnil parasitising adult Diptera is shown to be incorrect, the tachinid in question being actually a species of Hyalomyodes Townsend. Immature stages of Hyalomyodes sp. from Dasybasis Macquart (Tabanidae) and of a closely related tachinid from Amenia Robineau‐Desvoidy (Calliphoridae) are described and illustrated, and a relationship between these and an earlier reported parasite from Atherigona Rondani (Muscidae) is indicated. These examples provide the first authentic cases of Tachinidae parasitising adult Diptera.
