New multicolor photometry is presented for 23 stars in the vicinity of the Scl open cluster. A number of methods for the determination of intrinsic colors and absolute magnitudes were used to compute a mean cluster color excess of E(B - V) = 0=00 and a distance modulus of V0 - M = 6=9. Several criteria were employed in an examination of cluster membership; 16 of the 23 stars are probable cluster members. The metal deficiency found by Eggen is not confirmed. An age of approximately 50 x 106 yr was obtained for the aggregate. Key words: open cluster-interstellar reddening-south galactic pole
