Abstract
Application of either the Cecropia juvenile hormone or 2 synthetic analogues up to 24 hr after blood-feeding completely and irreversibly inhibits follicular maturation in the mosquito Aedes aegypti. Normal functioning and degeneration of the nurse cells and follicular epithelium of the follicle is blocked in treated females. These compounds also cause an increase in the amount of protein contained in the ovaries of non-blood-fed females, although the follicles do not mature. A subsequent blood meal does not result in maturation of the follicles.
